How to Jack Up a Lifted Truck

2022 Lifted Toyota Tundra

When it’s time for vehicle maintenance in Mesa, you may be wondering how to jack up a lifted truck. It’s important to do this task correctly to prevent injury or damage to your vehicle, so you will want to learn how to jack up lifted truck models before you start working. Trucks Only has all the details in the helpful guide below.

Important Information

Lifted trucks are higher off the ground than standard models, so you will need a taller jack and jack stand. The frame of your lifted truck will have specific areas where the jack can safely support the vehicle. There are three main types of jacks: scissor jacks, bottle jacks, and trolley/floor jacks. When you have a jack that can reach your vehicle, make sure that you know how to use it correctly.

What You Need

Be sure that you have the right supplies on hand before you begin. You will need:

  • A jack
  • Jack stands
  • Wheel chocks

If you are changing a tire, you will also need an impact wrench as well as a lug/deep socket wrench.

How to Jack Up Lifted Truck Models

Apache Junction and Tucson drivers should follow the steps listed below. They are very similar to the steps for a standard truck, but your tools need to be placed specifically and carefully to prevent damage.

  • Place the wheel chocks under the tires. The location depends on what part of the vehicle you’re working on. If you are working on a front wheel, the wheel chocks should be set beneath the back wheels. If you are working on a rear wheel, place the wheel chocks under the front wheels.
  • When the wheel chocks are set properly, check to see if the jack is functioning correctly.
  • After the jack has been tested, position it correctly. Often, you will find jacking points labeled on the frame by the manufacturer. If those points are not marked, find a level area where the jack will fit and be able to support the weight of the vehicle without causing damage.
  • Raise the jack and place the jack stands.
  • Lower the jack to let the jack stands support the vehicle.
  • Perform the needed service, then jack the truck back up to remove the jack stands.
  • Lower the vehicle.
