Choosing a Bed Liner: The Basics
Protecting your truck bed is important. If you scratch up the paints or let water sit under the stock liner, you’ll get rust spots. Seeing as most of us use our trucks for work or outdoor projects, though, we need to be able to beat the tar out of it. That’s where bed liners come in.

Today, we’ll look at what kind of bed liner you should get for your truck.

Trick Out Your Truck

The Type of Bed Liner to Use in Your Truck

There are four different types of bed liner: drop-in, spray-on, bed rug, and bed mat. Which one you should get depends on what type of materials you haul and your budget. Let’s take a closer look at each to see which you should choose.

Drop-In Bed Liner
Every new truck comes with a drop-in bedliner. They’re made of plastic and are molded to specifically fit any given truck model. They absorb shock relatively well. They are affordable, usually costing around $180. If you’re in construction or another field where you tend to load your truck bed with loose materials, this is a great option.

Spray-On Bed Liner
Spray-on liners are highly customizable, down to the color and texture. However, they are the most expensive and time-consuming to install. Getting a spray-on liner professionally done averages around $500-$600. If you transport things like chemicals, paints, or other liquids, then this is a great option, as there is nothing for the liquid to get caught under.

Bed Rug Bed Liner
Bed rugs are a lot like drop-in liners. They are molded to your specific vehicle. They require no drilling and won’t scratch up your truck bed. The rug liner can be taken out and cleaned off easily. Rug liners are the most comfortable of liners to work in. So, if you spend a lot of time crawling around in your bed moving things, this is an excellent option. They usually go for around $450.

Bed Mat Bed Liner
Bed mats are great if you are on a budget and also don’t want things to move around. They are made out of recycled rubber, meaning they have excellent grip and shock absorption. Being made from recycled rubber also makes them cheap. They usually run around $100. However, rubber doesn’t mold easily, so they won’t be a snug fit. Many also only cover the bed floor, not the sides.
