Trucks are getting better and better. As a result, buying a brand-new truck will cost you a lot of cash. That’s why we prefer used trucks. You can get an excellent vehicle for thousands upon thousands less than you would for something new. So, if you’re in need a great heavy-duty truck, like the Silverado 3500, why not shop for a used model? Today, we’ll show you what to expect from recent Silverado 3500 generations so you can find the right truck at the right price.
The third generation of Silverado 3500 models were powerhouses, able to pull up to 23,300 lbs. Two different engines were available: a 6.0L V8 and a 6.6L Duramax V8 turbodiesel. The 6.0L V8 pumps out 360 horsepower and 380 lb-ft of torque, while the 6.6L Duramax produces 445 horsepower and 910 lb-ft of torque. Later models were fitted with an eight-speed automatic.
The current generation Silverado 3500 takes what made the previous generation so good and improves upon it. Like last generation, it has two available engines: a big new 6.6L V8 and the returning 6.6L Duramax V8 turbodiesel. The new 6.6L V8 pumps out 401 horsepower and 464 lb-ft of torque, a big increase over past models. The 6.6L Duramax still produces 445 horsepower and 910 lb-ft of torque. But don’t let that fool you. Towing capacity has gone through the roof. The max towing capacity has gone up to 35,500 lbs, an increase of more than 12,000 lbs. New Silverado 3500 models are equipped with a 10-speed automatic transmission.
