Whether or not you consider LED bulbs better than regular headlights depends how you judge them. LED headlights produce a brighter, whiter light. They tend to put out around 2,000-4,000 lumens. So, LED lights illuminate more area and show things in that area more clearly. For comparison, the high and low beams on a halogen bulb produce 1200 and 700 lumens, respectively. However, LED lights are way more expensive than regular halogen bulbs. Each individual LED bulb is expensive, usually over $70. By comparison, the $30 cost for a two-pack of halogen bulbs is a lot easier for many people to swallow.

Are LED Headlights Street Legal?
For the most part, yes. Every vehicle that comes with LED headlights, like the 2020 Ram 1500 Big Horn or the 2020 GMC Sierra 1500, must be compliant with every state’s auto laws. Those LED lights are installed properly by the OEM according to strict standards. However, some aftermarket kits can be too bright or unfocused to be legal.
